Not certain about how to bring this up, but...
I did directly-give to SETI earlier this year!
Perhaps then, foolishly (?), I decided to directly support GPUUG and all of its aims to the combined-total of ~$1000.00/year...hopefully that decision was not erroneous!
Was I mistaken?
Time, alone, will tell!
In many ways, I'd prefer to see my money directed to specifics, but I must question just what a smallish-group of 80 (last count) members can ultimately-accomplish.
In the meantime, I find it hard to navigate this site, especially without many forums to respond-to...and I mean no disrespect to those who worked so hard to bring this board to fruiition!

Web site navigation etc...
Hi Bob,
We can all appreciate your concerns as giving money away is never an easy thing to do - it's kind of personal. We're a small group indeed, but we're all dedicated to this idea of providing a legitimate avenue for donating for things that 1. SETI really needs, and 2. people are interested in seeing SETI receive and therefore are interested in donating directly toward the purchase of that item.
We're also very new and still have growing pains, so we're working to make things better and provide more ways to make donations so that we can reach a broader audience.
So with that being said, with regard to the web site I'm totally open to constructive criticism as long as you provide some specifics. If you see some things you think need to be improved, please let me know what you think the problem is (hard to read / hard to find hard to navigate / bad color choice, etc.) and send me a screen shot of the page with the problem so that I can clearly understand the issue and work toward making it better. I've been doing web sites for a long time and I hate to fall into the trap that I like to call "compounded arrogance" which is when I think that something I did for another site works well everywhere because no one said anything to the contrary!
Thanks, I appreciate your comments!

I am not sure why this posted
I am not sure why this posted so many times, I only hit the button once. Also please don't take anything as criticism, just I did not see a reason as to your questioning, and to state my personal views on the subject. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving.
Why?
Bob, why would you question your donation with the group? I did not see a reason why. I do know that we are attempting to reach out beyond our group, which is why the post in the number crunching forum, and they are working on looking for other ways and avenues to get the word out. So far this small group has donated the server synergy, in addition to the recent equipment purchased , and have a reasonable start towards their other objectives. I would agree that we probably can't be the only source of funds towards this effort, but we have obviously been a very big part of it. I am not aware of any other groups that have donated at this level, much less with this few numbers. It appears we have some members willing to provide a lot of their time and effort towards this, which seems to be a mor concerted effort than what I have seen in the past, and more than I would have been willing to do myself, therefore I am happy to help with money in lue of sweat and time. I think the reasons for our efforts are the same as you stte, which is to direct he funds more where we want, and that we feel the equipment is the best use of our money for SETI and for our groups goals. I agree tht this site is a little difficult to navigate.
